Before news articles are published, every fact reported should be checked. It is embarassing to a publication to have to make corrections after publication of news articles because of readily available, unchecked information.
Journalists are charged with an important task when writing news articles. They are supposed to find and report every side of a story possible. This happens less and less in the mainstream media in America.
News articles should reflect reporting without bias, meaning they don't give any side of the story any more emphasis or credance than any others. This is not the way that the major papers in the United States handle news articles, though. You can pick up any paper in the United States and read the Republican party line.
Very few jounalists approach researching and reporting news articles with a balance between openmindedness and skepticism even though it is their ethical obligation. In my experience, all of the news articles I have read in the last year are clearly supporting their original position.
It is unfortunate the the American media no longer uses careful judgment when organizing and reporting information. The fear hysteria that permeated the American psyche was recharged and spurred on by news articles that whipped American citizens into a bloodthirsty frenzy.
Journalists like Ann Coulter are ones that report on subjects in which she has a personal interest or bias that cannot be set aside. News articles from her should be dismissed out of hand.
